Five questions for Pieter van der Burg, Nesec
Who are you and what is your job?
My name is Pieter van der Burg and I work with Nesec since 2008. I am the MD since that year and enjoy myself at the crossroads of shipping, shipping finance and partners in our funds.
What does a typical day for you look like?
Luckily there is no typical day. My colleagues at Nesec and I keep up to date with freight markets, developments with our clients, maintain relations with our funders, source new transactions and monitor our existing portfolio of shipping loans in close cooperation.
What was the best advice (workwise) someone gave you?
I picked up various hints from different sources in the course of my working life. If you want to sum it up, it is best characterised as: “Enjoy what you do and be transactional”.
How could you be of help to others in the industry or the RMSC?
We are instrumental in funding the maritime cluster of the Netherlands and North West Europe. That is our main assistance to others. Besides, we have knowledge about the sector that we are happy to share with others in the industry in an in-depth dialogue.
And lastly: what’s in the news which relates directly to your profession?
Everything in everyday life has a relation to shipping and vice versa: geographical tension, war, import tariffs, taxes, interest rates, the oil price and increasing regulatory pressure.
