Education

Leading knowledge institutions

In today’s increasingly complex world, it’s human capital that makes the difference. The Rotterdam region offers access to maritime business services education and applied research at institutes with a globally respected reputation.

STC Group offers maritime education both at a vocational and university level. At Erasmus University Rotterdam one will find master programs on, for instance, maritime law, maritime economics & logistics or fiscal economics.

This is combined with the education and research of Delft University of Technology and the Rotterdam School of Management. The OECD recognised Rotterdam as leading city worldwide when it comes to port research. In cooperation with the maritime sector also tailor made education and research programmes (e.g. Smart Port or Anatomy of Shipping) were developed.

In cooperation with STC Group – Netherlands Maritime University, the RMSC offers the Anatomy of Shipping Business Course (link). This course offers insight into current relevant topics in the maritime sector. The biannual Praktijkleergang Zeeverzekering (link) offered by the Erasmus Academy of Erasmus University Rotterdam offers a postgraduate experience for those working in maritime insurance and maritime legal services.

Last but not least, RMSC also endorses scientific research done on maritime business services within the Smart Port Rotterdam (externe link) project. Currently a project under supervision of Dr. Wouter Jacobs of Erasmus University is undertaken in which the evolution of worldwide maritime services centres are researched. Based on several decades of Lloyds data (amongst others) the question why and how maritime centres evolve, is mapped, explored and explained.
