Get to know the board: Steven Verhaar

During the annual General Assembly Steven Verhaar was welcomed as the newest member to the board by Connie Roozen. But who is he and what made him decide to join the RMSC board?

I am a generalist with a passion for insurance and the maritime industry, working at DUPI is great – combining my two focus areas. I have more than thirty years experience in the insurance industry and every day is interesting. Being in the sales and marketing team of DUPI Group, you see the new possibilities and the challenges at the same time. Entrepreneurs are looking at opportunities, while insurers – of course – look at the risks.

Combining these by personal contact and searching for ways to make this possible, makes this job a very nice one!

Seeing that a growing trade association such as the RMSC was looking for new board members, I became enthusiastic for the task at hand myself. While our industry is still rather invisible, we do not have new ships, valves or equipment to present, all these assets have to be financed, insured and surveyed once in a while.

Making our maritime business services industry more visible will therefore be one of my key targets for the coming years.

Personally, I have a broad interest. Not only in insurance and sales, but also in technics, specially in means of transportations and politics.I am active in the city-council of my place of residence and with a German girlfriend, I travel back and forward to Cologne.
