5 questions for … Joost Bout – NESEC
With the ‘five questions for’ series individual RMSC members get the opportunity to introduce themselves to the network. In this edition Joost Bout talks about his role as Loan Portfolio Manager at NESEC.
Who are you and what is your job description?
Joost Bout, 36, living in Rotterdam but originally from Yerseke (Zeeland) and my official job title is Loan Portfolio Manager.
What does a typical day for you look like?
There is no real typical day to be honest. I am currently the relationship manager for existing clients, so handling their requests, internal credit reviews and so on, but there is also optimizing the funding side and working with the funders of our Nesec Shipping Debt Fund. Besides these activities, I am also working on new funds.
What was the best advice (workwise) someone gave you?
Take the stage sometimes. Just delivering/reaching targets is great, but if nobody knows about it, you miss out on a large part of the value add. Clients need to know what services/products you can offer.
How could you be of help to others in the industry or to RMSC?
I am openminded, solution driven and have sufficient experience in maritime sector to know what to look out for.
And lastly: What’s in the news which relates directly to your profession?
Too much to mention: Interest rates, emission regulations for ships, autonomous sailing, war in Ukraine. Essentially if it affects our clients (shipowners) and the capital markets (funders) it affects our business. A truly international environment.
