Rotterdam Maritime Cluster visits Athens and Pireaus
On March 12 the first Rotterdam-Athens Piraeus meeting took place in Athens. The meeting was organised by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Greece, the City of Rotterdam, Rotterdam Partners, the Port of Rotterdam, Mare Forum and the Rotterdam Maritime Services Community and was facilitated by Greek maritime clusters and shipping companies.
Rotterdam and Athens-Piraeus are two of the most important shipping and maritime hubs globally, and the main seats of activity for Europe’s two prime maritime nations, Greece and the Netherlands. Several topics were discussed, e.g. the importance of the maritime clusters, the international ports, financing structures and future challenges like Brexit.
Connie Roozen, as board member of the RMSC presented the maritime services community in Rotterdam, the future of the global maritime hubs and explored business opportunities between the Greek and Dutch shipping industries.
Taco van der Valk, member of RMSC and President of the Dutch Maritime Law Association promoted the Maritime Court in Rotterdam and the benefits of including Dutch Law in contracts.
We decided to follow up with a.o. an introduction with the Maritime Services Community in Athens. In addition it was decided to plan a follow up meeting in November in Rotterdam. An agenda was set for further collaboration. We are very pleased with the outcome of this productive meeting between the two maritime clusters.
