Research Centre Business Innovation
Last month, RMSC manager Linda Treuman visited Arjen van Klink of the Research Centre Business Innovation. This is part of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (‘Hogeschool Rotterdam’). Arjen and Linda know each other from the Master in maritime education.
The Research Centre conducts applied research together with small- and medium-sized companies in various industries in the Rotterdam region, such as business services, manufacturing, and wholesale.
The center focuses on business transformation issues, such as business model innovation, distributed leadership, application of digital technologies, innovation management, and sustainability.
Accommodating research
RMSC members can benefit from early adoption of innovation. Like other sectors, the maritime services industry has to cope with fast changes, such as consolidation, digitization and internationalization. That asks for a fundamental review of many aspects of the business.
Accommodating research, scientifically sound and practically oriented, can be of help. We thought it might be interesting to point out the possibility to conduct research via this Business Innovation Centre.
Action driven
The research is action driven, which means that projects are co-products between the staff of companies and the research team aimed to help the business to learn and develop.
Projects are conducted by professional researchers, supported by graduate students from various programs such as International Business, Management and Business & IT Management.
Research often starts small, with factfinding and problem identification carried out by the students. The Centre works for individual businesses and groups of companies with common issues.
