Five questions for Peter Molloy, Sea3R
Who are you and what is your job?
My name is Peter Molloy. I’m originally from Ireland and I am the Owner/Managing Director of Sea3R B.V. a niche maritime analytics, valuation and strategic advisory company based in Rotterdam.
What does a typical day for you look like?
My day starts with coffee, or exercise then coffee, depending on the day. After this, I discuss with the team what they are working on or if they need my input. Currently, the team consists of a have a researcher, data scientist and an infrastructure specialist. Together, they build and maintain our databases for analysing the different niche trades. I will then typically do some valuations or work with our writer on bespoke reports for clients. Plus, I squeeze in some of the day-to-day admin necessary for running and building a company.
What was the best advice (workwise) someone gave you?
The scariest part of working for yourself is the first leap. After that you are in it, so don’t make decisions out of fear – fear of being wrong, fear of losing money, fear of losing a client. Make the decision that best advances your company even if it means a step backwards.
How could you be of help to others in the industry or the RMSC?
We can help in a number of ways depending how you interact with a niche maritime trade. This can be as simple as a valuation of a vessel or a more complicated market analysis for particular projects or trades. We also help equipment providers to establish potential markets for their equipment whether it is for retrofits or newbuilds.
And lastly: what’s in the news which relates directly to your profession?
As we analyses maritime trades and fleets, both global and local news is important to us. Global issues that could impact the supply of vessels or materials but local issues that could influence demand all play apart. With smaller vessels regional legislation changes or events can vessels and markets, so all of it relates.
