Webinar market developments in the superyacht sector
While some sectors are heavily hit by the corona crisis, others tend to flourish. The superyacht industry proves to be less vulnerable for economic downturn. Shipbuilding of superyachts, is a relatively unknown industry in the greater Rotterdam region.
Therefore, the RMSC, Netherlands Maritime Technology, and Innovation Quarter decided to organise a webinar to provide insights on the Dutch superyacht industry.
Hein Velema of Marstrat has 30 years’ experience in the industry and will shine his light on the challenges and opportunities for the greater Rotterdam region. Recently he has concluded a study to the superyacht sector and will share his experience.
Afterwards, we will focus more on the sustainability topics which are now arising for superyachts. Eddie Kloosterman, division director of NMT will present the current developments with a clear focus on Retrofitting. Shipowners already use the Dutch shipyards for general maintenance and are now aware that more sustainable propulsion will be necessary and are now making choices – wait or invest in retrofits. How can the Dutch cluster make the most of this? Other speakers include Dennis Bravenboer (Hug Engineering) and Robert van der Tol (Water Revolution Foundation)
During a panel discussion we will dive deeper into one of these elements, refits. Refits might be a smart and swift way to improve the sustainability of a ship and in addition, the Dutch shipyards are equipped for that.
Of course there will be the possibility for questions and discussion.
