Young RMSC Reflects on Maritime Legislation Conference
By Marc Buijs, Young Rotterdam Maritime Services Community
Within the maritime sector, it is common to look beyond borders. On behalf of the Young Rotterdam Maritime Services Community, I had the pleasure of co-organising, together with ELSA the Netherlands, a conference on the commercial impact of maritime trade legislation on the port of Rotterdam. A dynamic legal domain involving numerous stakeholders.
Maritime trade law plays a vital role in ensuring a well-functioning and safe maritime sector. Throughout the event, several prominent speakers shared valuable insights, expertise and perspectives, demonstrating how maritime legislation fosters international cooperation. Obstacles can only be overcome through rapprochement, dedication and robust dialogue – something increasingly important in light of today’s global challenges.
Together with all participants, we explored topics such as the exclusive competence of the Maritime Chamber of the Court of Rotterdam, sanctions legislation targeting the Russian shadow fleet, and future developments in this increasingly complex legal landscape. It was a valuable day full of new insights and connections.
