Europort 2023
What a busy and vibrant week it was, the second week of November! RMSC members gathered at the opening of Europort 2023 during the Maritime Awards Gala in Rotterdam Ahoy. A great way to speak to lots of business friends and acquaintances. During this evening, innovations were recognized and the RMSC would like to congratulate all winners. A great start of a week full of knowledge sharing and networking.
Tuesday: kick-off Ship Finance Pavilion
The next day, Europort opened its doors and the maritime business services providers were well presented at the opening summit. As well as at the first day of the Ship Finance Pavilion, a great cooperation between the Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR), Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT), Europort and ourselves. Multiple members from the financial community were present at the pavilion. The pavilion provided Europort visitors with the opportunity for informal discussions with financiers.
Wednesday: Mare Forum
Wednesday is traditionally Mare Forum Ship Finance day. During the conference, the discussion on the pace of transition and who will be paying for the greening of ships was evidently a big topic. Two items will be most important in 2024 according to the speakers: the outcome of the US elections and the EU Emission Trading System; starting this January (for vessel above 5000 GT). The question is if everybody is ready for it, as the date is already 6 weeks from now!
Thanks Mare Forum for having RMSC chairman Erik Witjens at the opening, and four of our members in the panels for open conversations. Linda Treuman was able to connect multiple people during the networking breaks and we all are looking forward next year’s edition.
Thursday: Business Lunch
Thursday, besides a busy Ship Finance Pavilion, we had the pleasure of having 50+ members at one time at the Rotterdam Maritime Capital of Europe stand for the business lunch. Great to see the ecosystem expand and a huge amount of companies and institutes were there at the “Rotterdam Street”.
Friday: inspiring Young Professionals
Friday, our very own Marc Buijs (Young RMSC) moderated the seminar “ Energizing the Young” jointly organised with YoungShip Rotterdam. With Audrey Rost-Ernst, Diantha Spekman Hanna Roukema and Martijn Schouten as speakers and an amazing crowd that did not hold back to react on the topics raised. Including that work-life balance or 24-7 doesn’t have to be mutual exclusive if you have autonomy, trust and responsability in your work.
And lastly – also a knowledge sharing event on the Ship Finance Pavilion where a ship financing case was given and discussed with more than 25 young professionals.
All in all: networking at the exhibition, gaining knowledge and expand your connections all in one week!
